TRAINING: I work full-time, but I lift in the morning and do some bag work. I teach jiu-jitsu in the evenings. Other than that, it's just striking, grappling and conditioning -- nothing too crazy.
When and why did you start training for fighting? My grandpa was an All-Army champion and my uncle was a very accomplished amateur boxer. I just wanted to see my grandpa smile. I needed something to do after the military to take my mind off of everything. I just felt at home because I was involved in martial arts as a kid. I felt at home, and I had missed it.

What ranks and titles have you held? Really, I won about all the big titles you can as a mixed martial artist and jiu-jitsu practitioner in Oklahoma. I was the amateur 185-pound Oklahoma champion, I was the XFL Oklahoma 185-pound champion as an amateur, I was the Oklahoma state champion in jiu-jitsu in the open expert division. I was also the Combat MMA 185-pound champion.

Do you have any heroes? Yes, my grandpa and Sgt. Allen J. Duncley.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? I wish it would've happened five years ago, but I'm happy. I made a promise to a dying man that I would make it. He told me not to quit until I made it and for some reason I was young and naive enough to promise an impossible task. When I walk in there next week, I've already won. The burden has been lifted off my shoulders. It's time to have fun.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I attended Rogers State University and graduated with degrees in liberal arts and a bachelors degree in science in organizational leadership.

What was your job before you started fighting? I was a sniper with the U.S. military, where I served in Iraq.

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? I was 7-0 and was the 185-pound Oklahoma champion.

Favorite grappling technique: The one that submits my opponent.

Favorite Striking technique: The one that knocks my opponent out.
