Biography
TRAINING: I train from three to four times a day. I try to train as hard as possible in different areas every day, such as jiu-jitsu, sparring, cardio and also some specific training for my next opponent. I try to tackle all my difficulties in those training sessions to become a more complete MMA fighter. During camp, I focus on my goals and think a lot about the potential that I have to become a top contender. I have what it takes, so I go to every training session thinking about this and give my very best every single time. Even if I have some time off I'll try to do something fun that will help my conditioning, like going for a bike ride or going for a run. It's all about becoming the best fighter I can possibly be.
When and why did you start training to become a fighter? At age 14. I had an affinity for the sport.
What ranks and titles have you held? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Jiu-jitsu: Brazilian champion, Pan American, Brazil Cup, 13-time champion of the Northeast, 15 times champion of Ceará.
Do you have any heroes? My brother
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? The realization of a dream as a professional athlete.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I completed high school
What was your job before you started fighting? Safety inspector
Favorite grappling technique: Triangle
• Team Vitor member on TUF Brazil, was switched to Team Wanderlei late in the season
• Pro since 2003
• Nine wins by submission (flying triangle, triangle armbar, 4 armbar, guillotine, arm triangle), four by knockout
• Has won last four of his last seven fights
• Origin of nickname Pepey: “It’s a childhood nickname. I have an older brother with the same name, Godofredo Castro. I needed a nickname different from my brother.”
